Classes and your main class

How a class goes from out of reach to unlocked, why some classes take longer than others, and how your main class is decided.

Every class has requirements: a minimum value in each attribute it uses. A Warrior leans on Strength and Constitution; a Sage on Intelligence and Wisdom. Each class page shows that profile.

Your first class

When you create a character you pick one of the starter classes (Warrior, Rogue, Mage or Cleric), and your attributes start from that class’s profile. From then on, what you do decides where you go.

From eligible to unlocked

  1. Eligible: your attributes meet every requirement of a class.
  2. Unlocking: an eligible class doesn’t open at once. It fills an unlock bar as you keep progressing.
  3. Unlocked: when the bar is full, the class is yours.

How fast the bar fills depends on the class:

  • Higher classes resist more. Each class has its own resistance to unlocking, and it rises with class level: the most advanced classes fill their bar slowest of all.
  • Stepping up is slower than stepping down. A class above your main class’s level takes longer to unlock; one below it is quicker.

Which classes you become eligible for in the first place depends on your profile: classes that look like what you already are come first. That’s why your history shapes where you can go next. The Class Atlas shows which classes have similar profiles: the brighter the link between two classes, the closer they are.

Your main class

You never choose your main class. It is always the unlocked class closest to your current attribute profile, and it updates as your attributes change. It can only move to classes you’ve already unlocked, so you can’t skip ahead to a class you haven’t earned.
